LockTober - The Security Awareness Month.
Announcing an innovative strategic Crime Prevention partnership
Crime Stoppers and Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania Inc. are proud to announce a new strategic partnership in crime prevention for Tasmania .
This new initiative will allow both organisations to remind the community about responsible security measures from October till December and including Christmas.
Both Crime Stoppers and Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania organisations have very high brand awareness in the community.
The month of October will now be known as Locktober, the month for public awareness, and a reminder to lock up and lock out criminal activity. It will be a positive pro-active approach, especially in the lead up to the Christmas period.
Whilst a key focus of the Crime Stoppers operations in past years has been crime solving, Crime Stoppers has broadened its perspective in recent years to take a pro- active position in crime prevention. And this partnership with Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania is just one more avenue to assist in crime prevention in Tasmania .
Brian Aherne, Chairman of Crime Stoppers Tasmania, said: “Although our key charter is by encouraging the general public to come forward with any information which may assist Tasmania Police in their investigations into criminal activity, participating and supporting Crime Prevention activities is another avenue in which Crime Stoppers Tasmania is happy to assist.”
Taking a positive approach to improve security is the first step in providing safer and more secure cars and homes, prevention is better than the cure, said Mr Aherne
Crime Stoppers and Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania truly believe that it's our responsibility to not only communicate but educate the general public to ensure they are able to make an informed security decision.
With this in mind we are entering this joint venture with Neighbourhood Watch with two key objectives. Firstly, to educate consumers on crime prevention, including safety and security. Secondly, to continue Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania 's long standing support of community organisations in areas such as crime prevention.
State President of Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania Inc, Jan Dunsby, agrees that this partnership and positive approach to crime prevention will have on-going benefits that will spread across our State.
“If this initiative encourages Tasmanians to be more aware and protective of their own community and environment, we will see the continued reduction in these types of crimes. A win-win situation for all.”
With strong synergies and long stable histories both Crime Stoppers and Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania are excited to be joining forces to help make Tasmanian communities safer and more secure.
